Travertine tiles are a popular choice for a variety of applications, including flooring, walls, pool pavers and countertops. They are durable, versatile, and beautiful. However, with so many different types of travertine tiles available, it can be difficult to know where to start.

We have produced this informative guide to help you select the right travertine tiles for your needs:

1. Consider the application.

What will you be using the travertine tiles for? If you are using them for flooring, wether internalo or outdoors you will need to select tiles that are durable and slip-resistant. If you are using them for walls or countertops, you can select tiles that are more delicate.

2. Choose the right finish.

Travertine tiles come in a variety of finishes, including honed, filled, unfilled, and tumbled. Honed tiles have a smooth, matte finish. Filled tiles have the pores filled with a sealant to prevent staining. Unfilled tiles have the pores open, which makes them more susceptible to staining but also gives them a more natural look and extremewly non slip surface ( Great Outdoors). Tumbled tiles have a worn, distressed look.

3. Select the right color.

Travertine tiles come in a variety of colors, including cream, beige, tan, white and silver. Choose a colour that will complement the overall style of your home or outdoor space.

4. Consider the size and shape of the tiles.

Travertine tiles come in a variety of sizes and shapes, including square, rectangular, and hexagonal. The most popular tile sizes being “French Pattern,” and also 610x406mm. Choose a size and shape that will work well with the space you are tiling.

5. Get samples. Especially FREE ones.

Once you have narrowed down your choices, get samples of the travertine tiles you are interested in. This will allow you to see how the tiles look in your space and to make sure you are happy with the color and texture.

Here are some additional tips for selecting travertine tiles:

  • If you are using travertine tiles for flooring, choose tiles that are at least 12mm thick. This will ensure that the tiles are durable enough to withstand foot traffic.
  • If you are using travertine tiles for walls or countertops, choose tiles that are at least 12mm thick. This is a good thickness for tiles that will not be subjected to a lot of wear and tear.
  • If you are using travertine tiles in a wet area, such as a shower or bathroom floor, choose tiles that are slip-resistant. We recommend a honed tumbled finish
  • If you are using travertine tiles in an outdoor area, choose tiles that are weather-resistant and non slip. Here we recommend Unfilled and Tumbled.
